The UNO Counseling and Career Center offers personal counseling to all currently enrolled UNO students. Counseling is available to individuals, couples, and families as long as one partner/family member is a UNO student.
The UNO Counseling and Career Center utilizes a variety of assessments and interventions for diagnosis and to determine the best possible course of treatment for common mental health issues. The UNO Counseling and Career Center is committed to a time-limited model of service delivery. Sessions are usually scheduled on a weekly basis and last approximately fifty minutes. The length of treatment varies depending on the nature of the problem. It will typically last from 1 to 10 sessions, but the actual length of treatment will be determined by you and your counselor. Short-term or brief intervention is the primary focus of the services offered. When longer term or specialized counseling is needed, a referral to appropriate community resources is made.
Please Note: The UNO Counseling and Career Center does not provide counseling services for UNO faculty and staff. If you are a member of UNO faculty or staff, please contact UNO Human Resources Management for information about employee assistance programs and related benefits.
Individual career counseling is available for students seeking assistance in exploring career options. The goal of career counseling is to help the student make decisions about career directions. The UNO Counseling and Career Center staff will not choose careers for students, suggest majors and/or what courses to take, or provide academic advising.
Instead, assistance in examining career options in light of an individual's values, skills, and interests is provided, as well as assistance in gathering information and researching relevant occupational areas. In addition to individual testing, workshops are offered to specific student groups whenever needed and to the general student population on a rotating schedule throughout the year.
